Clemson star will miss Cotton Bowl against Notre Dame

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

When the Clemson Tigers take to the field in Dallas for their College Football Playoff Semifinal game against Notre Dame, star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence will not be part of the team.

It was previously noted that Lawrence failed a drug test leading up to the game. This report now indicates that the NCAA has upheld his suspension and he will miss the huge game.

Given Notre Dame’s ability to run the ball between the tackles, this is a massive blow for Clemson. Both Dexter Williams and Jafar Armstrong averaged north of five yards per rush during the regular season.

The likes of Christian Wilkins and Clelin Ferrell will have to step up if Clemson hopes to avoid an upset and earn a spot in the title game against either Alabama or Oklahoma.
