Report: Reeling Ravens not practicing during bye

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh

The Baltimore Ravens are desperate to shake a losing streak, and head coach John Harbaugh believes one of the solutions is a little time off.

According to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, Harbaugh said the Ravens are better off resting and will not practice during their bye week.

“I think our guys have been hard at work, at it through a long training camp, and it will be good for us to get an opportunity to get off our feet and get our legs back. So I’m looking forward to that.”

After starting the season 4-2, the Ravens have lost three straight games. They’ve dropped from leading the AFC North to third place.

As a result, Harbaugh’s job security is becoming a question. Baltimore has only reached the playoffs once since 2013, so missing the postseason would mean no shot at a Super Bowl in five of the last six years.

The Ravens front office has taken a patient approach, but it won’t last forever. Nor will Joe Flacco’s hold on the quarterback job over Lamar Jackson.

Given that Baltimore holds a plus-53 point differential, hope for a turnaround at least isn’t misguided. However, the schedule isn’t offering a reprieve soon.

The Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs are among the next four games, so the Ravens could be looking at a 5-8 record in early December. Their playoff fate would be decided at that point.

Harbaugh knows this is must-win territory for both Baltimore and himself.
