Tuesday is voting day in the United States, and it’s a serious matter. But there’s still time for jokes, and Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey took the brunt of one.

Bleacher Report writer Howard Beck posted a picture of a “Popovich/Kerr 2020” mug. Morey then humorously angled for a position working with the duo.

Beck’s response, though, threw a lovely jab at Morey.

Perfect.

Morey has done a remarkable job acquiring talent over the last few seasons, shaping Houston into a real threat to the Golden State Warriors. James Harden and Chris Paul are a stellar pair around which to build.

The Rockets have prioritized high-volume shooting, focusing on three-pointers and close twos. That’s what the numbers say to do, and the style is thriving.

But defense? Well, that’s a work in progress in 2018-19.

After ranking seventh in the NBA last season with a 105.6 defensive rating, that figure has ballooned to 110.1 this year. The difference is partially a product of Houston losing Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute while adding Carmelo Anthony.

If the Rockets can turn it around as the campaign goes on, they’ll remain a chief threat to Golden State. And Morey might be able to throw his hat in the running for SecDef.
