On Saturday night, the Cincinnati Reds made a heartbreaking announcement revealing one of their minor league pitchers was killed and two of his teammates were injured in a crash in the Dominican Republic.

According to the team’s statement, right-handed pitcher Jairo Capellán was killed in a car crash this morning. Right-handed pitcher Raul Hernandez remains in critical condition at a hospital, while outfielder Emilio Garcia is in stable condition.

Capellán, 19, made his professional debut with Cincinnati’s rookie-level team. Garcia and Hernandez, 19, also played on the same team in the Dominican Summer League.

Our condolences go out to Cincinnati’s organization and Capellán’s family, along with our prayers to Garcia and Hernandez.
