Drew Brees has already put together a Hall of Fame-worthy career, but the New Orleans Saints quarterback is poised to add a legendary record to his resume.
Barring injury or an abnormal level of ineffectiveness in Week 5, Brees will surge from No. 3 on the NFL’s all-time passing yards chart to No. 1. He’s only 200 yards behind current leader Peyton Manning.
In fairness to the Washington football team — the Saints’ upcoming opponent — it has limited two of three quarterbacks to less than 200 yards this season. However, Brees has eclipsed the mark in 69 of his last 71 games, including all four games in 2018.
Brees would pass a couple of fellow legends in the process.
Brett Favre ended his career with a then-record 71,838 yards. Manning, then, narrowly edged that total with 71,940 before retiring after the 2015 season.
As if NFL fans wouldn’t be watching Monday Night Football already, they’ll have an extra reason to tune in and watch Brees claim his place in history.
