After omitting Colin Kaepernick from photo gallery, 49ers apologize

NFL free agent

Looking ahead to their Monday night matchup against the Green Bay Packers, the San Francisco 49ers published a photo gallery of their greatest moments against the Packers. Only, there was a glaring omission, as Colin Kaepernick was nowhere to be found.

The gallery was billed by the team as the “top moments between the 49ers and Packers since 1950.” As any 49ers fan would know, one of the most incredible moments in the team’s long history against Green Bay was engineered by Kaepernick, who beat the Packers in the playoffs twice.

His 2012 performance against Green Bay was the greatest rushing game by a quarterback in NFL playoff history. Kaepernick also threw for over 400 yards during a regular-season game against the Packers.

Needless to say, many fans were upset over the team’s omission.

On Friday, 49ers general manager John Lynch called it a “glaring omission” during a Friday morning KNBR interview.

“I just learned about it a couple of minutes ago,” Lynch said on the “Murph & Mac” show. “Obviously, from our part, a glaring omission. From ownership on down, we’ve got so much respect for his contributions to this franchise and against the Packers. Anyone who is a fan of football, let alone 49er fans, knows that he has a great part of history against the Packers.”

The 49ers have also issued a public apology, per Pro Football Talk, and have added Kaepernick to that gallery.

“Unfortunately there were a handful of obvious misses in this gallery posted by our website team and we appreciate them being brought to our attention,” the team said in a statement. “The 49ers organization has tremendous respect and gratitude for the contributions Colin made to our team over the years. We have fond memories of those games and that should have been displayed on our website. This oversight does not properly reflect the appreciation our ownership and this team have for Colin.”

Kaepernick hasn’t played a down in the NFL since opting out of his contract with the 49ers following the 2016 NFL season. His collusion case against the league and its owners is still ongoing.
