With his Minnesota Vikings taking on the Los Angeles Rams in Southern California Thursday evening, three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Everson Griffen is dealing with something much larger than sports.

The star pass rusher allegedly threatened to shoot an unnamed individual while at a Minneapolis hotel this past Saturday. He was then arrested later that night for attempting to break into a teammate’s house.

Having been held for psych evaluations and with with his Vikings organization concerned about the defensive end’s well-being, Griffen just released the following statement on Instagram.

“This past week’s events have raised many questions and I want to apologize to everyone who was impacted,” Griffen wrote. “I am currently focused on resolving personal issues with which I have been dealing with for a long time. Once I have had time to address those issues, I hope to share my story with everyone.”

It’s rather clear where Griffen is going with this. He’s now attempting to get help for the unnamed issues that have plagued him for some time now.

As much as people want to focus on the football aspect of this, that should be the least of our concerns. Griffen’s personal life and ability to overcome recent obstacles should be the primary focus for the man and his organization. It seems apparent that both entities agree with that sentiment.
