Tim Tebow on David Wright: ‘One of the best Mets ever’

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

As he rehabs from an injury suffered this past summer, New York Mets minor league outfielder Tim Tebow still has time to lob praise in the direction of a player he’ll never suit up with.

TMZ Sports caught up with the former Heisman winner in New York City, at which point Tebow called third baseman David Wright “one of the best players to ever play for the Mets.”

Tebow’s praise comes after the Mets officially activated Wright from the 60-day disabled list. The seven-time All-Star will appear in his first Major League Baseball game since May of 2016 this coming Saturday before he ultimately retires from the game.

Wright spoke to the media prior to New York’s game against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.

It has to be a bittersweet moment for Wright. As Tebow notes, he is among the greatest players in Mets franchise history. Before a shoulder injury derailed his career back in 2014, he was hitting well over .300 and had earned multiple Gold Glove awards.

It will be nice to see him in the pinstripes one last time. For his part, Tebow was enjoying an All-Star campaign between Single-A and Double-A before suffering a season-ending injury back in July.
