Report: Seahawks considering Earl Thomas fine, could still trade All-Pro

The drama we saw unfold between the Seattle Seahawks and All-Pro safety Earl Thomas this offseason has now bled into the regular season.

Thomas was absent from practice twice over the past week. The Seahawks made sure to note both times that his absence was not injury-related. And while he did appear for walk through on Saturday and will start against Dallas, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that Seattle is considering a significant fine for the veteran.

The NFL insider is also reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs have emerged as a candidate to make a move for Thomas should a deal be struck before the Oct. 30 trade deadline.

“The Seahawks have engaged in trade talks with teams, including the Cowboys, about Thomas but the Kansas City Chiefs have emerged as a candidate if a deal is made before the Oct. 30 trade deadline, Mortensen reported.

Thomas held out throughout offseason activities and training camp in hopes of landing a long-term extension from Seattle. When nothing came to fruition on that end, he reported prior to Week 1. Even then, Thomas made it known how he feels about a lack of long-term security in Seattle.

A six-time Pro Bowler, the 29-year-old Thomas is slated to become a free agent following the season. With Seattle sitting at 0-2 and potentially in the midst of a lost season, it would not be a shock to see the suddenly rebuilding squad look to move Thomas here within the next month.

Interestingly, all of this comes with Seattle set to take on Thomas’ hometown Dallas Cowboys squad Sunday afternoon. The safety made headlines last year by telling Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett to trade for him following a game between these two teams.
