Ohio State attendance takes nosedive not seen since 2002

As the Ohio State Buckeyes roll out to a hot start in the 2018 season, attendance isn’t quite so hot at Ohio Stadium. In Saturday’s game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Ohio State experienced a nosedive in attendance.

For the first time since 2002, the Buckeyes drew less than 100,000 in attendance at Ohio Stadium.

While the Buckeyes are fresh off a 77-31 win over Oregon State in the opener and the team is ranked No. 4 in the country, fans don’t seem quite as interested in attending games.

The drop in attendance could be due to the events from the offseason, as head coach Urban Meyer allegedly covered up an abuse scandal. Ohio State suspended Meyer for the first three games of the season as a result.

Whether fans aren’t showing up because Meyer isn’t there or they are upset over him still being Ohio State’s head coach, the attendance is suffering.

If Ohio Stadium still draws fewer than 100,000 in their next home game, then the program may have a problem on its hands.
