Bills HC: Josh Allen is permanent starter

The Buffalo Bills are going to continue starting rookie quarterback Josh Allen under center for the foreseeable future, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

When asked if Allen starting was a permanent thing at this point, McDermott told reporters Monday that, “we’re going to do go with Josh,” per Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News. He also made it clear this isn’t going to be a week-to-week decision.

It’s understandable that McDermott would still with Allen. His other option would be to let Nathan Peterman start again, and that’s brought about nothing but disaster so far in his career. He has a 1-2 record as a starter while completing 43.3 percent of his career passes with just two touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Allen is still very raw and has very little support, both up front on the offensive line and in his receiving corps.

So far, he’s completed 50 percent of his passes for 319 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

It’s going to be a rough season, both for the rookie quarterback and this team, which appears to be one of the worst the league has to offer.

That being said, if Allen can somehow escape this baptism by fire without any really bad habits developing — if he can take his lumps and continue to get better — then he has a future in the league.

The Bills are playing with fire a bit right now, because there’s a chance they can permanently damage this talented youngster. But on the other hand, many other young quarterbacks have thrived after a couple miserable seasons out of the gate.
