Jets players: Formations, hand signals gave plays away in blowout of Lions

Matthew Stafford

During their 48-17 blowout against the Detroit Lions on Monday, it appeared as though the New York Jets players knew what was coming. As it turns out, that might have been precisely what happened.

Following the game, the Jets players said that the formations, as well as hand signals from Matthew Stafford, tipped the plays to the New York defenders.

It’s as good an explanation as any we can come up with. The Jets constantly looked like they were a step or two ahead of the Lions.

Frankly, Detroit’s coaching staff and players should send New York a gift basket for making this known. Now they at least have a chance to do something about it to correct the mistake. If the Lions can’t find a way to correct things and their plays continue to be predictable, Monday will only be the beginning of things to come.
