The NFL isn’t backing down about its recent push to protect quarterbacks from what most sane people would identifies as a football tackle.

Then again, NFL defenders aren’t backing down from criticizing the league about this emphasis.

Following in the footsteps of many of his peers, Miami Dolphins defensive end Cam Wake went off on the league Friday discussing the roughing calls that have been called, and which are responsible for one of his defensive teammates being lost for the season due to a knee injury.

Really, it’s impossible not to feel for these defenders. The league has essentially made it impossible for them to do their jobs without being subject to unfair penalties — just ask Clay Matthews.

But the truth of the matter is that the league is not going to go backwards on this, even though many on the league’s Competition Committee are not comfortable with the penalties.
