It’s happening. It’s really happening. And we couldn’t be any more excited. After years of rumors that a new Space Jam movie will be released and with LeBron James playing point on it, we’re finally here.

James has just tabbed Black Panther director Ryan Coogler to head the new Space Jam project.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to break this momentous news.

“In his first project since directing the record-breaking Black Panther, Ryan Coogler is teaming with LeBron James on the anticipated follow-up to the Michael Jordan-Bugs Bunny hit Space Jam,” the site reported.

King James couldn’t be more excited to work with Coogler, who also directed hits Creed and Fruitvale Station.

“I loved his vision,” James told The Hollywood Reporter. “So for Ryan to be able to bring that to kids, it’s amazing.”

The three-time champion’s belief in Coogler stems from the idea that Hollywood’s newest power player was finally able to bring a black superhero to the big screen with resounding results. Black Panther has grossed $1.34 billion worldwide since its release.

The production on the Warner Bros. film is slated for the 2019 NBA offseason and will include Terence Nance as its director.

James’ foray into the the entertainment industry is nothing new. He started production company SpringHill Entertainment with business partner Maverick Carter.

James is also planning for a sequel to the 1990s cult hit House Party and is about to be the headliner in yet-to-be-released big screen movie.

Joining the Los Angeles Lakers this past summer has played into James’ presence in Hollywood increasing even more moving forward. This is the latest example.
