Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto is one of the most beloved players in baseball, and he showed why on Wednesday.
During Cincinnati’s game against the Detroit Tigers, Votto walked over and gave Tigers’ designated hitter Victor Martinez a hug.

It’s not often you see a player give an opponent a hug when an opponent gets a hit against them. But this was a special moment between players who have been competing against each other for a long time.
Martinez, who is 39 years old and expected to retire this offseason, was facing Cincinnati for the final time. Votto likely saw this as a final opportunity to congratulate Martinez on a 16-year career and show him some in their final game against each other.
It proved to be a great and unique moment on the baseball field. Really, it’s just another reason to love Votto and baseball as a whole.
