Seahawks sign veteran LB Erik Walden

Eric Walden

In an attempt to improve their pass rush, the Seattle Seahawks have added a former Super Bowl champion to the mix.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Seattle has signed 10-year veteran linebacker Erik Walden.

Walden had taken a visit with the Seahawks earlier this month. It appears that Pete Carroll and Co. liked what they saw.

A former undrafted free agent from Middle Tennessee State, Walden has carved out a nice little career for himself as a pass-rush specialist.

Two seasons ago with the Indianapolis Colts, the soon-to-be 33-year-old linebacker racked up a career-high 11 sacks. He followed that up with a more pedestrian performance last season with the Tennessee Titans, recording four sacks in limited action.

Walden’s presence should help the likes of Frank Clark and rookie Rasheem Green. This move also means that the Seahawks are likely focusing more on pass rush upgrades than additions to a weakened secondary.

The team previously had veteran cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in for a visit.
