Report: Sixers rookie Zhaire Smith suffers fractured foot

The Philadelphia 76ers’ luck with injuries just continues to plague the team at every turn. After seeing 2017 No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz miss all but 14 games of his rookie season to injury, this year’s top pick will likely miss his entire initial campaign.

According to Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports, rookie No. 16 overall pick Zhaire Smith suffered a fractured foot in Vegas on Monday.

This came after the Sixers themselves released a statement earlier in Tuesday simply noting that Smith suffered a left foot injury.

Needless to say, Smith’s rookie season is now completely up in the air. Surgery is scheduled for later in the week, at which point we’ll have a better understanding of Smith’s long-term status.

A standout at Texas Tech last season, the guard averaged 11.3 points while shooting 56 percent from the field as a freshman.
