Report: Reds’ Matt Harvey will not be traded to the Brewers

After being claimed on trade waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Matt Harvey will now remain with the Reds for the remainder of the 2018 season.

Harvey, who Cincinnati acquired from the New York Mets in May, will stay with the organization after the Brewers and Reds were unable to agree to terms on a trade.

Cincinnati placed the 29-year-old starting pitcher on waivers earlier this week and he was claimed by Milwaukee on Wednesday. Milwaukee, who is in need of rotation help given recent struggles of several starters, now must turn its attention to other potential starters on trade waivers.

While the Reds were unable to flip Harvey for prospects, he has been a good addition to the team since his arrival. In Cincinnati, Harvey has rediscovered his fastball velocity and posted a 4.28 ERA in 17 starts.

More importantly, he has been a positive presence in the clubhouse and helped mentor the young pitchers in Cincinnati. An impending free agent, Harvey has certainly boosted his value since he left New York.
