Report: Josh Allen to work with second-team offense versus Browns

Bills quarterback Josh Allen

After rookie Josh Allen worked with the Buffalo Bills second-team offense on Monday, the rookie will have a big opportunity in his second preseason game.

According to Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic, Allen is expected to work with Buffalo’s second-team offense Friday against the Cleveland Browns. The team has reportedly worked him with the second-team offense throughout practice as of late.

This could be the start of the rookie’s push up the depth chart in Buffalo. It was previously reported Allen would have a chance to earn the starting quarterback gig and he is now on a path towards that.

Friday’s game should provide Allen with the opportunity to further improve on his first NFL appearance. In his first game, the No. 7 overall pick threw his first touchdown pass and rushed for 29 yards, but had more incompletions (10) than completions (nine).

There is a real possibility we see Allen ascend up the depth chart even further before the preseason ends. If he performs well against the Browns, he should see first-team snaps next week, then can challenge for the starting job.
