Report: Jordan Matthews placed on IR, not released

Jordan Matthews was traded from the Eagles to the Bills

On Wednesday, reports emerged that the New England Patriots had released free agent wide receiver Jordan Matthews, who is dealing with a significant hamstring issue.

Not so fast, according to Field Yates of ESPN, who reports New England ended up placing Matthews on IR and noted “he could negotiate an injury settlement and eventually become a free agent.”

Matthews spent last season with the Buffalo Bills, ending up on IR with a thumb injury after appearing in 10 games.

Over the course of his four years as a pro, the former second-round pick out of Vanderbilt has tallied 250 passes for 2,955 yards and 20 touchdowns, starting 43 games.

The Patriots could still consider bringing in veteran Eric Decker, who recently worked out with the club, to replace Matthews on the depth chart.
