Report: Cardinals to name Mike Shildt as full-time manager

The St. Louis Cardinals have reportedly found their manager of the future, agreeing to a three-year deal with interim skipper Mike Shildt.

Shildt took over as the club’s interim manager in July when the team fired Mike Matheny. Since becoming St. Louis’ skipper, the team has posted a .684 winning percentage thanks to a 26-12 record.

Under Shildt’s tenure, the Cardinals have climbed back into the postseason race and now sit just four and a half games back of the Chicago Cubs in the N.L. Central. St. Louis currently holds a 1/2 game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers for the top wild-card spot in the National League and a two-game lead over the Colorado Rockies.

The 50-year-old skipper previously worked as the club’s manager at Double-A Springfield then Triple-A Memphis for two seasons. This offseason, he became the team’s bench coach.
