Shildt took over as the club’s interim manager in July when the team fired Mike Matheny. Since becoming St. Louis’ skipper, the team has posted a .684 winning percentage thanks to a 26-12 record.
Under Shildt’s tenure, the Cardinals have climbed back into the postseason race and now sit just four and a half games back of the Chicago Cubs in the N.L. Central. St. Louis currently holds a 1/2 game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers for the top wild-card spot in the National League and a two-game lead over the Colorado Rockies.
The 50-year-old skipper previously worked as the club’s manager at Double-A Springfield then Triple-A Memphis for two seasons. This offseason, he became the team’s bench coach.
