Rays place Tommy Pham on disabled list with fractured foot

On Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Rays pulled off a blockbuster trade to acquire outfielder Tommy Pham. On Friday, he is now headed to the 10-day disabled list with a fractured right foot.

In just his second game with Tampa Bay, Pham’s foot was hit by a pitch and he was forced to leave the game immediately. After initial tests came back clean, a further evaluation revealed the unfortunate news.

The 30-year-old is without a timetable for a return, though the team is hopeful he can return in less than a month.

Pham’s absence could open the door for Tampa Bay to call up top prospect Austin Meadows. The young outfielder was acquired as the centerpiece of the Chris Archer trade.

While this is an unfortunate injury for Pham, the Rays have plenty of outfield depth to give at-bats to in the coming weeks.
