Pablo Sandoval out for year with torn hamstring

As the San Francisco Giants continue to hang on in the playoff race, they continue to get bad injury news. Pablo Sandoval will miss the remainder of the 2018 season with a torn hamstring.

Sandoval injured his hamstring on Sunday’s game sliding into home. He was placed on the DL the next day. The news of Sandoval’s injury comes only one day after it was announced that starting pitcher Johnny Cueto will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Sandoval has served primarily as a backup for the Giants this year. But injuries to both third baseman Evan Longoria and first baseman Brandon Belt gave him significant playing time.

Sandoval was having his best season since initially leaving San Francisco for the Boston Red Sox following the 2014 season. In 230 at-bats over 92 games, he was hitting .248/.310/.417 with nine home runs.
