Malcolm Mitchell reportedly released by Patriots

The New England Patriots are cutting ties with wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell, who appeared to have a bright future with the club as a fourth-round rookie in 2016.

Mitchell had a strong start to his NFL career. He appeared in 14 games as a rookie in 2016, earning six starts while hauling in 32 receptions for 401 yards and four touchdowns.

Unfortunately, a knee injury kept him off the field the entire 2017 season, and it remains an issue for him this summer.

The Patriots were reportedly looking for a trade partner for Mitchell earlier this summer, but obviously that did not come to fruition.

If Mitchell can get healthy, then it stands to reason that he’ll get another shot at making an NFL roster. The former Bulldog is still just 26 years old and definitely has the skill to make an impact for a receiver-needy team.
