Jimmy Smith suspended four games for violating personal conduct policy

The Baltimore Ravens will be without starting cornerback Jimmy Smith for the first four games of the 2018 season after the NFL handed down a four-game ban for a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.

This suspension did not come out of nowhere, as on Monday Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reported the Ravens were bracing for a multiple-game suspension.

Zrebiec also reported that Smith will be appealing the suspension.

At this time, there are no further details about exactly what Smith did to violate the NFL’s personal conduct policy. However, the league has been looking into a custody battle between Smith and the mother of his first child, Micaela Sanchez, who alleged he used illegal drugs last year and abused her physically.

Since being selected No. 27 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft, Smith has started 68 games for Baltimore, tallying 11 interceptions, 59 passes defensed and two touchdowns.
