Jack Del Rio on Khalil Mack: ‘Pay the man!’

Khalil Mack hasn’t reported to the Oakland Raiders since offseason workouts began, so former coach Jack Del Rio has simple advice for the organization.

Responding to a question on Twitter, Del Rio had nothing but praise for the 27-year-old defensive end and said the Raiders should pony up.

Mack missed Oakland’s preseason opener, for which he’ll be fined $814,000. However, current Raiders coach Jon Gruden said Mack’s absence isn’t a distraction.

Although the All-Pro edge-rusher is set to earn $13.8 million, per Spotrac, 2018 is the final season of his contract. Mack wants long-term stability, and he’s wise for seeking it. You never know when an injury can rob a player of earning potential.

As Del Rio suggested, Oakland should pay Mack what he’s worth. But if the two sides can’t agree to an extension, Mack might be suiting up for a different team soon.
