A report earlier on Tuesday indicated that All-Star catcher Buster Posey would likely miss the remainder of the season and undergo season-ending hip surgery.
In a sudden reversal, Giants manager Bruce Bochy noted following the team’s loss to the New York Mets that Posey will be in the lineup Wednesday.
Bochy said Posey will play tomorrow, Giants are confident he can’t do further damage by playing for now. They’ll continue to talk about when to have surgery.

Posey also said that he’ll continue to have discussions with the team’s medical staff on a daily basis. It could eventually lead to season-ending surgery down the road. Though, no matter the situation, the backstop has noted that he’ll be ready for Opening Day of the 2019 season.
Posey, 31, has seen the hip bother him all season. It forced him from playing in what would have been his sixth All-Star Game and has impacted the future Hall of Famer’s power. He’s hit just five homers on the season.
Maybe the Giants have some false hope of contention moving forward. They entered Tuesday’s action with a 62-64 record and 7.5 games out of first place in the National League West.
Once it becomes clear San Francisco is completely out of contention, it would not be a shock if Posey did go under the knife. But for now, he’ll continue playing through it.
