Chris Paul donates $2.5 million to Wake Forest basketball

Chris Paul and other NBA free agents could face some nightmare scenarios

The men’s and women’s basketball teams at Wake Forest University are about to receive major facility upgrades thanks to NBA superstar Chris Paul.

According to the Winston-Salem Journal, the Houston Rockets point guard has pledged to donate $2.5 million. The money will be used to expand the locker rooms, treatment areas and nutrition resources for the basketball teams.

Paul said in a statement that building lifelong friendships with teammates is one of the most rewarding aspects of sports.

“The locker room transformation project inspired me, because that’s where players build relationships and create a unifying camaraderie that is the foundation of success on the court.”

The men’s locker room will be renamed the Chris Paul Locker Room.

Paul attended Wake Forest from 2003-2005, playing two seasons for the Demon Deacons. He averaged 15.0 points, 6.3 assists and 2.5 steals during his college career, which included an All-American nod in 2005.

A nine-time NBA All-Star, Paul recently signed a four-year, $160 million contract with Houston.
