Cardinals’ Kolten Wong placed on disabled list

In the midst of a race for a playoff spot, the St. Louis Cardinals placed starting second baseman Kolten Wong on the disabled list on Tuesday.

Wong, who departed Saturday’s game with a strained left hamstring, was hopeful he could avoid the disabled list. Unfortunately, further soreness in the hamstring forced St. Louis to place him on the 10-day disabled list.

Before the injury, Wong was extremely productive at the plate as of late for the Cardinals. Since the All-Star Break, the 27-year-old has posted a .342/.395/.466 slash line with a .861 OPS.

In his absence, St. Louis will likely rotate Greg Garcia and Yairo Munoz at second base. The Cardinals called up Triple-A Memphis infielder Patrick Wisdom to take Wong’s place on the roster. Wisdom will likely see most of his time at third base and first base.
