Yogi Ferrell reverses course, signs with the Sacramento Kings

On Thursday, it was reported that Dallas Mavericks free agent guard Yogi Ferrell would re-sign with the team on a two-year contract. This came after Dallas rescinded its restricted free agent tender to the 25-year-old guard. The expectation all along was that Ferrell would remain with the Mavericks.

That all changed Friday morning with news that Ferrell backed out of his contract with Dallas.

Now comes this report from Chams Charania of Yahoo! Sports indicating that Ferrell has indeed decided to spurn the Mavericks altogether, instead deciding to sign with the Sacramento Kings.

Given a promise to back up Luka Doncic at the two-guard position in Dallas, Ferrell obviously didn’t feel comfortable with said promise.

He’ll now be the first man off the bench behind starters De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield in Sacramento. Ferrell averaged 10.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting at a 37 percent clip from distance in Dallas last season.
