Saints’ Alvin Kamara hints that Le’Veon Bell will help him get paid

Saints running back Alvin Kamara in NFL Week 13

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is coming off a 2017 campaign that saw him earn NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. The dude put up 1,554 total yards and 13 touchdowns.

Now entering his sophomore campaign, Kamara is slated to take on an even larger role with Mark Ingram suspended for the first four games of the season.

Even then, Kamara is not getting paid at a clip that represents his value. A third-round pick out of Tennessee last year, the running back is playing under a four-year, $3.86 million contract. That’s pennies on the dollar stuff right there.

TMZ Sports caught up to Kamara outside of The Highlight Room in Los Angeles this weekend to discuss a wide array of topics. When asked about NFL owners not wanting to pay running backs their worth, Kamara noted that rich men don’t want to give up their money.

He then made sure to bring Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell’s contract situation into the conversation, noting that Bell “is about to change something up for us.”

Obviously, Kamara is talking about Bell continuing to holdout for a new contract. Having the franchise tag placed on him for a second consecutive year, Bell turned down a five-year, $70 million extension offer from Pittsburgh earlier in July (more on that here).

Bell is holding out for quarterback-type money. How his contract situation plays out will impact those set to hit free agency following him. That includes a player in Kamara who isn’t slated to hit the open market until after the 2020 season.

Bell’s deal will lay the groundwork for the likes of Kamara, Todd Gurley, David Johnson and Ezekiel Elliott moving forward.
