Rutgers dismisses DB K.J. Gray and LB Brendan DeVera for violating team rules

The Rutgers football program has reportedly dismissed junior defensive back K.J. Gray and sophomore linebacker Brendan DeVera for undisclosed violations of team rules.

Keith Sargeant of NJ Advanced Media broke this news Wednesday morning, citing a person with knowledge of the situation.

In particular, the dismissal of Gray is notable. Not only was he expected to play a big role for the Scarlet Knights in 2018, but he’s a player that NFL people have had on their radar as a potential draftable prospect next year.

Last year, Gray appeared in 10 games, tallying 55 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and two interceptions.

DeVera is also a key loss for Rutgers. After appearing in 11 games as a freshman last year, he also was expected to make a big impact for the Scarlet Knights, both on defense and special teams.
