Report: Yoenis Cespedes could return to lineup after All-Star Break

Few things have gone right for the New York Mets this season. Fortunately, they may at least get a little help back next week with the potential return of outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

According to Justin Tasch of the New York Daily Newsthe 32-year-old outfielder could be activated off the disabled list and in the lineup for the Subway Series. A trip to Yankee Stadium against the New York Yankees would allow Cespedes to be the designated hitter.

A two-time All-Star outfielder, Cespedes’ return would be a nice boost for New York’s lineup. A right hip flexor strain has kept him out of the lineup since he last played on May 13. In 37 games this season, the veteran has posted a .790 OPS with eight home runs and six doubles.

While Cespedes’ return would be too late to turn around New York’s season, the Mets could benefit from him playing well to potentially boost his trade value. Whenever Cespedes returns regularly to the lineup, he will become New York’s everyday left fielder once again.
