Report: Warriors’ Stephen Curry will not attend Team USA minicamp

Having reached the NBA Finals in each of the past four years with three championships to call his own, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry deserves an entire summer off.

At the very least, that’s the thought process from the two-time NBA MVP. According to ESPN’s Chris Haynes, Curry will not be attending the Team USA minicamp in Las Vegas next week.

“The two-time MVP, according to sources, will be spending time with his family and his newborn son. Training camp will be held July 25-27 at UNLV’s Mendenhall Center,” Haynes noted.

Curry and his wife, Ayesha, just recently had their third child earlier in July. That has obviously played a role in this decision.

Though, the star guard is coming off an injury-plagued 2017-18 campaign that saw him miss time to both a knee and an ankle injury.

With his Warriors having shown signs of fatigue last season, it makes sense that their franchise cornerstone would sit out this summer’s national team activities. After all, the Warriors have played an average of 100-plus games over the past four seasons.

Curry is one of 35 players with an opportunity to earn a Team USA spot. He joins new Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James in declining an invite to minicamp. It does not eliminate either star from the final roster. And in reality, both are almost assured to play as long as their bodies are up to it and they want to partake.
