Report: Astros have talked to Rays about possible Wilson Ramos trade

The defending World Series champs are looking to strengthen the catching position. According to a report, the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays have talked about a trade that would center around Tampa’s All-Star catcher, Wilson Ramos.

Houston’s offensive production from behind the plate hasn’t been terrible. That said, there’s definitely room to improve. Astros catchers have hit 12 home runs, and sport a .226 average, .306 OBP, and .391 slugging percentage. Those rank ninth, 18th, 15th, and 12th in the league, respectively.

Ramos, meanwhile, is having a fantastic season for Tampa. He has 15 home runs and is slashing at .291/.340/.479 for the Rays.

Additionally, Ramos figures to be a hot commodity as we build towards the trade deadline. Should the Astros acquire Ramos, they’d not only upgrade their own catching situation, but would also prevent him from going to a potential rival.
