Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki calls out Kevin Durant over social media habits

Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant is known for two things. His dominance on the court and his overwhelming desire to get into beefs on social media.

The 29-year-old has no shortage of moments going after people over various social media forms. He’s different from other players, especially Dallas Mavericks All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki.

During an interview with the Dan Patrick Show on Friday, Nowitzki called out Durant for his inability to stay away from engaging with trolls on a regular basis.

“I’m not sure why KD feels the need to respond to some of the stuff,” Nowitzki said, via The Dan Patrick Show. “I mean, Twitter is just such a place for tough guys and a lot of hate. I take it with a smile on my face. You can’t take yourself too serious on there.”

The 40-year-old is fairly active on social media, including Twitter, but also comes from a different generation than Durant. While Nowitzki has some fun with Twitter, he doesn’t see why anyone should get sensitive over it.

“I like having fun with it. I get hit up on Twitter every now and then in my mentions. ‘Hey, you’re old, go away. Retire.’ Or something like that,” Nowitzki said, via The Dan Patrick Show. “To me, it’s fun. You’re not supposed to be sensitive about it. That’s how I look at it.

Durant has earned his reputation among players and fans as an athlete who can be baited easily. But as long as he keeps winning championships and dominating, it will become an afterthought to his excellence on the court.

In the full interview, Nowitzki also talked about retirement, LeBron James and his new teammate Luka Doncic. The full interview can be found here.
