LOOK: Hunter S. Thompson implored Colts to draft Ryan Leaf over Peyton Manning

Fear and loathing in Indy? The great quarterback hunt? Yeah, those of you who are well versed in Hunter S. Thompson bookology know exactly where we are going with this.

Apparently, former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf is also familiar with the gone-too-soon word scribbler.

Leaf just posted this letter to his Instragam account. We’re going to show it to you before analyzing it, because it’s better than sex (pun game strong).

Yes, that’s a letter the late-great Thompson sent to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay ahead of the 1998 NFL Draft imploring him to draft Leaf over Peyton Manning.

“But the Leaf boy is another matter. He looks strong and Manning doesn’t.” Talk it into existence, Gonzo.

Unfortunately for Leaf, it didn’t turn out too swell. As most of you already know, he was the rube of the 1998 draft class. Leaf played four seasons in the NFL, tossing 14 touchdowns compared to 36 interceptions. Manning, meanwhile, is only considered one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play.
