LOOK: Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract dwarfs highest-paid athletes in other sports

If you think athletes in North America’s four major sports league’s make a lot of money, you might want to see what Cristiano Ronaldo is making.

Ronaldo’s deal with Juventus pays him a staggering $64.5 million per year. For some perspective on that, Oklahoma City Thunder guard, Russell Westbrook and Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher, Zack Greinke — the highest paid players in the NBA and MLB, respectively, combine to make $75.8 million.

Or, to put it another way, if we were to combine the $13.8 million made by Chicago Blackhawks stars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, they’d make $27.8 million. That’s not even half of what Ronaldo makes.

Soccer might still be a relatively niche sport in the United States. But if you can play it, it’s certainly worth pursuing. If nothing else, the best in the world are making money money in Europe that athletes in American sports can only dream about.
