Giants select Sam Beal in third round of Supplemental Draft

The New York Giants have taken cornerback Sam Beal out of Western Michigan in the third round of Wednesday’s Supplemental Draft.

Beal becomes the first person since 2015 to have been selected in the Supplemental Draft. The last person to be taken in this draft was offensive tackle Isaiah Battle out of Clemson, who was selected in the fifth round by the then St. Louis Rams.

In three years at Western Michigan, Beal went from being a receiver in his freshman season to becoming one of the most promising defensive backs in the nation. He finished his college career with 92 tackles and two interceptions.

He could have declared for the 2018 NFL Draft but opted to stay at school. Then in June, he decided to reverse course, and now he’s the newest member of the Giants.
