Driver who killed NFL player Edwin Jackson pleads guilty in DUI case

Edwin Jackson

When former NFL linebacker Edwin Jackson was killed in an accident on Super Bowl Sunday this past February, the entire football world was taken aback.

Once we learned that Jackson’s death was the result of a DUI, said shock turned to anger. Here, a 26-year-old man lost his life because of the idiocy of another man.

While it won’t bring Jackson back, the man responsible for his death will spend a nice amount of time in prison.

On Friday, 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Zavala pleaded guilty to two counts of a DUI that “causes the death of another.”

According to TMZ Sports, he faces up to 16 years in prison when sentenced in Indiana next month. At the very least, Jackson’s family and friends have some closure here.

An undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern back in 2014, Jackson had stints with both the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts.

He recorded 66 tackles in 16 games (eight stats) with Indianapolis back in 2016 before being placed on injured reserve early last season.
