Doug Pederson has no idea when Carson Wentz will be cleared

Everyone wants to know if Carson Wentz will be healthy enough to open the season as the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.

And at this point, nobody really knows, including head coach Doug Pederson, who offered quite an insightful take on this while updating his team’s big injuries for the team’s official website.

“I honestly really don’t know when Carson will be cleared,” Pederson said. “I’m asked about it every day everywhere I go. This is one of those deals where you have to trust your medical staff. I want Carson to play for 15, 20 years if he can. We’re in Year 3. He and I are married together and we’re just going to make sure this is right before he plays.”

Of course, Pederson has quite a luxury in that his backup, Nick Foles, is one of the best second-string guys — if not the best — in the NFL.

The Eagles also have a loaded roster from top to bottom on both sides of the ball. So, the defending Super Bowl champs have no reason to stress about when Wentz will land back in the starting lineup.

For what it’s worth, Wentz has looked fantastic this offseason as he continues to recover from the torn ACL that cut his 2017 season short.

He expects to be ready for Week 1. Whether that ends up happening remains to be seen.
