Having played for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1983-1993, defensive back Albert Lewis is among the greatest players in franchise history.
He starred on multiple playoff teams and earned four consecutive Pro Bowls during a career that concluded with the division-rival Raiders.
Lewis, 57, is now battling for his life after being hospitalized Monday night in Louisiana. According to KSLA in Shreveport, where Lewis is hospitalized, he is in the critical care unit with an unknown illness.
“Family friends close to Lewis tell KSLA Sports that he remains in the critical-care unit and it is not known when he will be moved,” the report read. “The same friends were unaware as to any previous medical conditions he suffered from that caused the hospitalization.”
A native of Louisiana, Lewis has held residence in that state since retiring all the way back in 1998. During his illustrious 16-year career in the NFL, the corner recorded 832 tackles, 42 interceptions and 14 forced fumbles. Prior to that, Lewis starred at Grambling State under legendary head coach Eddie Robinson.
