Browns WR Jarvis Landry lobs praise in Tyrod Taylor’s direction

For once in several years, the Cleveland Browns have their quarterback situation under control. The team has a capable starter in that of Tyrod Taylor as well as rookie Baker Mayfield, who is the future face of the franchise.

When it comes to Taylor, he is earning high marks and and garnering quite the praise from his teammates. Wideout Jarvis Landry had this to share when asked about how Taylor performed during the offseason.

“Amazing,” Landry told Rich Eisen (h/t Herbie Teope of NFL.com). “Amazing, man. His leadership, his arm, his accuracy and he’s ready, man. He’s the starting quarterback, and I’m sure that, obviously, the decision is up to [head coach] Hue [Jackson] and the offensive staff, and stuff like that. But I’m sure they’ve been highly impressed with [what] he’s done through OTAs and minicamp.”

Head coach Hue Jackson really should take into consideration his players’ feedback. The fact that Landry is meshing so well with Taylor and that both are new to Cleveland’s scheme is impressive.

Landry also said this as it pertains to Mayfield’s position with the team.

“He sees it as an opportunity for him to grow at the position,” Landry said of Mayfield. “A guy like Tyrod, who’s been to the Super Bowl, who took a Buffalo team that hasn’t been to the playoffs to the playoffs, he can learn a lot from Tyrod. At the same time, I think it’s a competition, but I think it’s true at the same time both guys are definitely qualified for the job.”

Landry mentioning the word “competition” suggests that the Browns are not quite committed to Taylor starting. Recently, Jackson said what Mayfield would have to do to win the starting job.

Training camp will kick off later this month. At that point, we’ll further see what both quarterbacks bring to the table. But as things stand now, Taylor is likely the guy we will see throwing passes to Landry in Week 1.
