Browns OT Donald Stephenson retires

Browns

The Cleveland Browns already planned to be without offensive tackle Donald Stephenson for two games after he was suspended. Now it seems Stephenson won’t be playing football anymore.

On Friday morning, Cleveland placed Stephenson on the reserved/retired list. While there is no official announcement from the 29-year-old tackle about retirement, the move by Cleveland seems to signal his playing career is over.

Stephenson, was the No. 74 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. After he spent four seasons in Kansas City, the Denver Broncos signed him to a three-year, $14 million contract in 2016.

Stephenson started 12 games for the Broncos at right tackle in 2016, but lost his starting job last season and appeared in just seven games.

The former third-round draft pick had signed with Cleveland on a one-year deal this offseason to provide depth at both tackle spots following the retirement of Joe Thomas. The Browns will likely sign someone to replace him before training camp begins.
