Second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and his Chicago Bears reported to training camp on Thursday. The team did so with with a new head coach in Matt Nagy creating buzz around the Windy City. Is this finally the year Chicago becomes relevant once again?
Trubisky himself showed well during the team’s off-season programs and has been propped by teammates recently.
In his introductory press conference during camp on Thursday, the former No. 3 overall pick took time to pretty much blast the media for its handling of his rookie season and the Bears’ overall struggles in 2017.
“We’re on the inside, we know what goes on in our building,” Trubisky said. “I kinda feel bad, because people got no idea, so they don’t really know what they’re talking about.”
Even this early during summer camps, it seems that this has become a theme around the NFL. Baltimore Ravens linebacker C.J. Mosley was singing the same tune in defending Joe Flacco earlier in the day.
For his part, Trubisky also noted that he has to do a better job of eliminating distractions. That includes not paying as much attention to those outside of the organization.
As a rookie last season, the North Carolina product was thrown out there in a less-than-ideal situation under then head coach John Fox. He would go on to throw just seven touchdowns in 12 starts. Obviously, both the quarterback and his team are expecting much more in 2018.
