WATCH: Orioles honor Capital Gazette shooting victims Friday evening

Five members of the Capital Gazette‘s newspaper team were killed in a shooting that rocked the foundation of the United States on Thursday. A nation that has been defined by mass shootings over the past several years saw one of the oldest pillars of journalism attacked in a targeted manner.

Despite this unconscionable attack, those who survived still found a way to put out a newspaper with the murders making the headlines.

A day after the tragic events, the Baltimore Orioles paid tribute to the victims at the Annapolis-based newspaper.

It included a moment of silence prior to Baltimore’s game against the Los Angeles Angels as well as a tribute inside the press box.

For those in the journalism community, this certainly hit home. No longer were individuals tasked with supporting a free press immune from the violence we see in today’s society.

Even those of us in the sports world were hit hard by this. It certainly shows just how close knit a community can be when something as terrible as this happens. The Orioles and those who cover them showed that in a big way Friday evening at Camden Yards.
