Roger Clemens’ son Kody Clemens signs with Tigers

Kody Clemens

After being selected by the Detroit Tigers with the 79th pick of the 2018 MLB Draft, Kody Clemens, son of legendary MLB pitcher Roger Clemens, has signed his MLB contract.

His father announced the news on Monday, per Mark Berman of Fox 26 in Houston, saying, “We are happy for Kody that he has the opportunity to play at the next level. He is very excited to be a Detroit Tiger. He is sad and will miss the University of Texas and all the fans, coaches and his teammates.”

Clemens was a redshirt junior at Texas, where he led the Big 12 with 19 home runs on his way to becoming the conference player of the year. Obviously, he could have stayed on at Texas if he wanted to, but the allure of playing MLB ball was too strong.

A second baseman with power like that surely has a future in the big leagues, if he can stay healthy and continues to work at his craft.
