The NBA has waited for the news LeBron James will be hitting the market. It has finally arrived.
According to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, LeBron’s agent has informed the Cleveland Cavaliers he will not exercise his player option and will become a free agent.

James, who rejoined the Cavs four offseasons ago, has been strongly linked to the Los Angeles Lakers. Now as an unrestricted free agent, he could depart for the Lakers without the Cavs getting anything in return.
Had he opted in, strong-arming his way to Los Angeles would’ve necessitated a sign-and-trade. But now, the Lakers could add LeBron then move assets to acquire Kawhi Leonard, who is upset with his situation in San Antonio.
Free agency officially begins July 1, and LeBron isn’t expected to take much time before making a decision.
