Report: Barry Trotz closing in on agreement to be Islanders next HC

Barry Trotz

Just a few days after Barry Trotz stepped down as the head coach of the Stanley Cup-winning Washington Nationals, he’s reportedly close to becoming the next head coach of the New York Islanders.

Darren Dreger of TSN reported Thursday, per his sources, that “Barry Trotz and the New York Islanders are closing in on an agreement for Trotz to be the Isles next head coach.”

Obviously this would be a huge get for the Islanders. The past four seasons while Trotz coached in Washington, his team made it to the playoffs, and he ended his tenure in our nation’s capital on as high a note as is humanly possible.

Meanwhile, New York has failed to make postseason play the past two seasons under the leadership of Jack Capuano and Doug Weight.

Needless to say, landing Trotz would certainly be a shot in the arm for this organization.
