Padres’ Jose Torres suspended remainder of season for violating DV policy

On Friday, Major League Baseball announced San Diego Padres left-handed pitcher Jose Torres was suspended for the remainder of the 2018 season for violating the league’s domestic violence policy.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the 24-year-old was arrested in December and later faced domestic violence chargers in January.

Torres appeared in 62 games last season for San Diego and registered a 4.21 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and recorded a 63/14 K/BB ratio.

The organization placed Torres on the restricted list in February as it waited for MLB’s investigation to conclude and for the legal proceedings to further play out.

MLB’s announced suspension for Torres is especially worth noting given Toronto Blue Jays closer Robert Osuna was arrested and charged with assaulting a woman in May. The team placed him on the restricted list and it is widely expected he receives a significant suspension.
